Inspired by true life events

Boston, MA — April 13, 2026 — Musician and songwriter David O’Leary unveils his latest single, “Sins of Our Fathers,” a blistering hard rock track rooted in the true story of his childhood friend Derek McCarthy, who endured clergy abuse in Ireland at just 14 years old before fleeing to America in search of survival, freedom, and the chance to rebuild his life.

“Sins of Our Fathers” tries to capture his emotional fracture point—the moment Derek escaped.

The lyrics refuse to soften the truth. Fueled by rage, confusion, fear, and the desperate instinct to escape, the song channels the emotional violence of that chapter in Derek’s life with unflinching honesty. The chorus becomes Derek’s voice, the cry of a boy forced into exile by betrayal, while the verses stand as an indictment of the institutional silence and abuse that shaped his past.

Musically, the track delivers that story with force and virtuosity through an all-star lineup of rock veterans. Featured performances include Rudiger on vocals, Mike Vanderhule on drums, Tony MacAlpine on keyboards with an organ solo, Bruce Bouillet on lead guitar, and George Lynch delivering the track’s closing solo. O’Leary performs bass, guitars, and additional keyboards, shaping the song’s dark, relentless atmosphere from beginning to end.

“This song was written for Derek,” says O’Leary. “It’s about the terror of realizing the place that was supposed to protect you has become the place you need to escape. It’s about that decision to run and never look back, and the moment you’re forced to confront the past that has weighed you down for so long.”

With “Sins of Our Fathers,” O’Leary continues to push beyond traditional hard rock storytelling into something far more personal and cinematic—using music as witness, memory, and confrontation. The result is a track that is both deeply intimate and universally resonant: a song about survival, the scars of betrayal, and the courage it takes to choose life beyond trauma.
